How do I quit Imovie????? It's always saying this, with NO time limit? Lousy warnng message system, that's for sure!

These are background tasks which actually can be interrupted. If you shut down iMovie regardless it will tell you that background tasks are being cancelled - this is OK - they will automatically resume when you launch imovie again.

Unfortunately (unlike FCP 10.1) iMovie 10 shows no info on exactly which background tasks are running. The ones that take longest are usually background rendering and analysis for shake - stabilization. You will know they are running from the high level of CPU activity when you are not actually editing (they are temporarily suspended when you edit). If you launch Activity Monitor you will be able to see the iMovie tasks that are active.
