Putting name on outside of laptop-How to?

Question

Putting name on outside of laptop-How to?

My wife just got a MacBook for school (she is a teacher). We want to put her name on it so that it does not get mixed up with someone else's or will be easier to identify if someone steals it.
The thought is to put her name on the outside where people can see it and have it hidden - perhaps in the battery area.

What can be used to do this? Permanent markers come to mind but I believe that hairspray take that off the surface of a MacBook.

Any ideas?

I mentioned putting it on the botton since you mentioned she didn't want to get hers mixed up with another MB. I wouldn't want to pull the battery every time I needed to check it out.

Maybe put it in both places. That way, you can just flip it over to verify ownership, but if it gets stolen and they remove the name they likely will not look under the battery like you mention.

Sorry - I guess I was not very clear at the begining. I meant to say that I would put it in more than one place - one obvious and one not obvious. But the main question was how to put it on the outside (an obvious spot). I will check around to see about the engraving idea. We are about 50 miles from a mall but I am sure I can figure something out a little closer.

I agree - two places is better than one.

Try a local trophy shop. They might be able to do it as well.

Almost anything can be removed with some sort of solvent, but if you take an etching tool like those used to engrave names on glassware and such, you can permanently imprint her name on the MB.

If you take it to the mall, one of those gift shops can probably do it for you for a small charge. It will also look a lot nicer to have it done by someone who knows how to use those tools.

I wouldn't do it under the battery as no one will see it there. Perhaps somewhere on the bottom of the MB would be better.

I was thinking of writting it under the battery as a place to look if it gets stolen and they did not think to delet a name from there.

That is a good idea about getting someone that knows how to use an engraving tool to do it.
