Snow leopard and orf file from Olympus OMD EM1

Hello, is there any chance to see the preview of these orf file without upgrading to 10.8.5 or later?

I have Aperture 3.2.4 with Digital Camera Raw 3.13.0 and it works fine with the Olympus E 620 orf files.

I can see the preview of these orf also from desktop. without opening Aperture.

Upgrading to Olympus OMD EM1, the new orf files aren't read anymore...it seems that I need Digital camera Raw 5.03 to see them, but the dmg can't be opened with 10.6.8....

I don't want to upgrade , because I like very much Snow leopard, but it is frustrating not to see the preview of the Olympus EM1 orf files...every time I have to open them with Olympus Raw Converter ( Olympus Viewer 3), that is very slow....

Any suggestion?

Thank You for the attention

Bye

Brody, first of all, thank You for your answer 🙂

I think that the GraphicConverter could not be useful for me, because I was looking for a way yo see the .orf without having to convert them before...

I have already Rosetta activated in my Imac, I've checked in :

- \private\var\db

- /private/var/db/dyld

but I can't understand how could this help me 😟...sorry, I'm not so good in these things, unfortunately...

Thank You very much again, really appreciated 🙂

GraphicConverter supports the ORF files for import. You'll have to export to another RAW format that is more compatible with the graphics software you use for editing, or just use GraphicConverter for editing. Unfortunately that Olympus has not been updated in its Mac software since Mac OS X 10.3 was released. Alternatively you could run Windows on your Mac:

and use their Windows 7 software:

Hy Brody, thank You for your kind reply 🙂

I think that I won't be able to fix this because I've read somewhere that Preview share the same raw converter of Aperture and IPhoto, but I run Aperture 3.2.4 ( Aperture 3.5 is required for EM1 😟 and doesn't support my SL 😟 !!) and a very old Iphoto ( I don't use it since a long time ago), that I can upgrade only to 9.2.3.

Now I must find if Iphoto 9.2.3 can open these raw from EM1, so probably also Preview could...but I'm not hopefully.

Thank U very much again!! 🙂

Hy, back again :)

I have been very surprised because I have sent by mail , as an attachment, one of these orfs and, when you choose what attachment send, in the window that open up in Mail, I have seen the orf normally displayed!!!

So, through Mail, I can see these orfs...through Preview...I can't...It is a mistery to me :(

So I think that must be, somewhere in SL, a way to see them, and this 'path' is used by Mail.

I will ask to the support Apple maybe.

Thank you again :)

Ciao

Hi Susanna,

have you had any success with your ORF issue?

When you were sending through Mail, Mail must have used an embedded JPG thumbnail version of the file for what you saw.

I don't think Mail can show any RAW file. At least I've never see that it could display [full size] any of my other RAW files, like Nikon's NEF or Panasonic RW2.

I was waiting for years until Apple finally came around supporting the FZ35 from Panasonic, but I doubt that there will ever be another DCR Update from Apple for OS 10.6.8 users. There is not even an OM-D E-M10 DCR available from Apple for the latest OS, although the camera was released last April.

There is a discussion here: Re: Olympus E-M10 RAW support? that may have a solution for fooling Aperture to open unsupported ORF files.
