Problems with Aperture 3.5

My folder for 2006 has my projects for that year. However I created a folder for 2007 and now half of the projects for 2006 are in the 2007 folder as well. How do I delete them without deleting them from the 2006 folder?

Shirley, that is confusing. A project can only be in one folder. Are you perhaps asking about albums?

Or are some 2006 projects in your 2006 folder, and some in your 2007 folder? You can drag projects from one folder to another.

No they are not albums, they are folders and projects. Yes, all 2006 projects are in the 2006 folder but half of them are also in the 2007 folder. I tried to drag them from one folder to the other but that won't work. I can't drop them in as it just won't let me. I can drag them to another project but they still remain in both folders.

Yes, all 2006 projects are in the 2006 folder but half of them are also in the 2007 folder.

A project or album can only be in one folder at a time. If you are seeing a project in two folders 2007 and 2006 at the same time, you either have duplicated the project and the images inside or split it.

Could you please post a screenshot of your projects in two different folders? Are you trying to drag the projects in the lower section of the library inspector, where you are seeing the projects listed hierarchically, or in the upper part with the projects view?

The pictures are also in the 2004 folder. I didn't do a screen shot of that one but trust me, they are in there too. The 2007 folder sits above the 2006 folder and I can’t move it. When I try it just jumps back to where it was. I have been trying to drag them where I see the projects listed hierarchically on the left hand side of the screen. If this is hard to see, the first shot is 2007, the second is 2006. I appreciate you trying to help me. User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

O.k. your nested folders are causing the problem. Because your 2006 folder is inside the 2007 folder, the 2007 folder is showing all 2006 projects.

To get this sorted, you need to move the 2006 folder out of the 2007 folder, so both are at the same level. Drag the 2006 folder right above the 2007 folder, and as far left as possible. Don't drop it onto a project or into another folder, like this:

If you haven't given up on me yet, here is what I am thinking.... The folder may not be nested inside the other folder because not all the photo's are in both. Only about half of 2006 pictures are in the 2007 folder. Could it be that when I dragged the 2007 project into the 2007 folder that pictures were still highlighted in 2006 and went along with the drag and drop. I am thinking this is a possiblility as half of the 2006 pictures are also in the 2004 Folder. If you have any more suggestions that I could try, let me know. If you have run out of suggestions, thanks for trying to help anyway.

Shirley, sorry for answering so late, but your previous post did not show at all for me, until you posted again.

I tried this and got the following message: A file or folder with the same name already exists in this location. Replacing it will overwrite it's current contents. Replace or Cancel? Should I say replace?

In such a case cancel and either rename the folder, to make the name unique or drag it somewhere else.

I'd try to move your 2006 folder to the top-level of the folders, to get it out of your 2007 folder. From there you can try to rearrange the projects inside. For example:

I moved the 2006 folder to the top as you suggested and that solved the problem for the 2006 and 2007 mess. Once it was moved to the top it no longer showed any of the pictures that belonged in the other folder. I am so happy! I had to delete the 2004 folder and then just put back from the trash what I wanted for that one and I renamed it by name rather than year. That was time consuming but at least things are back in order. Thank you so much for your help and patience.
