FaceTime stopped working couple of days ago

Hi, I have two relatively new systems - MacPro Retina may-2013 and iPod2 (feb-2014) both with the newest systems and all SW is up to date, about six days ago FaceTime stopped working - when I call my wife (she also has Mac Air up to date) Facetime tries to connect, then it hangs up, as if the user on the other side id busy (busy ringtone).

We were able to communicate normally using FaceTime before that happens.

Skype works flawlessly, but I don't like it since it is a 32-bit application and burns my battery to fast.

Any idea what is wrong with the FaceTime (and don't tell me to upgrade my software).

I experience the same problme on both OSX 10.9 and iOS7.

Finally, I would expect from Apple to report the problem transparently, not hiding it or showing green light on their FaceTime service as if everything is ok. It is not and this is disappointing

Thanks. Tom

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

There is no idea to the cause of the problem. Judging by the number of people with IOS 7.1 reporting problems I doubt that is the cause of the problem.

You can expect whatever you want to expect from Apple, but they do not actively participate here except for a few chosen community specialist that try to direct users to support articles. None of them would ever cop to an issue with an Apple service, if such issues existed. That is what the Apple System Status website is for.

Now before you go thinking that I'm defending. Apple, think again, because I'm not. I totally agree with you, but moaning about it here won't do you any good at all. If you want to leave feedback for Apple, tap on the Contact Us link in the lower right corner of this page.

In a way I agree with you. But as a end-user I just want my system to work, and this was the case till now. Now I have a dead application on my computer (as many others).

When you suggested to contact apple through their support - I did it couple of times and they are not of much use (unfortunately), so I don't do that anymore.

By posting this message I actually hoped that people will report the same problem, and this would definitely ruled out problems with my computers (and with theirs).

Thanks for help anyway, sometimes I'm a bit naive when I hope that gods from Apple will descend down to earth and talk to the people 🙂

Once again, I do agree with you. There is an apparent problem with FaceTime and us loyal Apple device users are left to wonder what in the world is going on. Will it be fixed, is it fixable even???

I have the most up to date iOS 7.1.1 and I'm running the latest OS X 10.9.2 on my 3 year old MBP. So far, FaceTime has yet to fail for me, but I haven't tried it on the MBP since updating just now in fact.

couldn't agree less with the opinion of "complaining" here will get you nowhere. I called my PAID AppleCare service twice, and was told "we don't know of any problem, but you can always upgrade or rebuild your system"

What a disrespectful thing to say from a PAID support service.

If people complain, post, exchange, then and ONLY then do corporate conglomerates tune-in.

Also, it stops users from wasting their valuable time trying to fix a problem they were never responsible for.

I've stopped calling Apple now after realizing it wasn't MY ipad, but Apples infrastructure that is faulty.

And if Apple claims they aren't at fault, they are essentially saying to users "convert to iOS7 or parish"

Right?

So read up people, complain, send emails, exchange data, and put pressure where pressure is due.

:)

Do you know why Apple does not officially admit Facetime is not working?

Because they don't want to compensate you for the unfunctional Facetime.

However, it must.

Facetime is not a free software, it is a function of iPad

When we buy an iPad, we buy its function.

If the function is not working, then this is the problem of its product.

It should compensate users, in whatever ways, refund, recall, or extend warranty.

However, since Apple doesn't admit, it don't need to compensate.

Hi everybody, post by ysetiawa with a link to apple's support page solved the problem - both machines included into facetime communication need to be updated to the latest version of the software, otherwise no go. Now I can communicate again with my wife. Great.

Nevertheless, there is a bit of a bitterness in and one question is still bothering me "Is it really so difficult to announce on the forums what need to be done in order to keep programms runing as it is expected?". I guess will never get an answer.

Thanks for reading original post and commenting it.
