Songs deleted in iTunes don't delete off iPhone

Hi--

I'm trying to clean old albums out of my iTunes and off my iPhone. I've deleted them out of iTunes, but the songs don't delete off my iPhone. I am befuddled! Here's what I did:

1. Deleted the albums, including the root files, off iTunes.

2. Synced my iPhone to my computer (which should have deleted the albums, from my experience).

But the songs don't delete off the iPhone!

The weirdest part is that when I look at the "On This iPhone" section with the phone plugged into iTunes, it shows the songs have been deleted-- but the phone itself doesn't, and still plays them!

To get a few things out of the way:

- I do not have the albums synced to iCloud

- I do not have iTunes Match

- "Show All Music" is off

- I have my "entire music library" synced, not just checked songs

- The only Options button I have checked is "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected."

What do I do? Thanks for your help!
