My Apple TV is taking forever to load anything!

We just purchased Apple TV, and it's taking forever to actually load and play any of my TV episodes or movies. we have connected it with my homesharing on my Mac. is there any process that can speed this up, or something that may be slowing it down?

We have Fast internet so i'm pretty sure that is not the issue.

I was experiencing the same. My ATV is connected to iTunes via Home Sharing setup using Ethernet. I have movies in iTune library and it would take approx 5 mins of spinning wheel before the movie would play. It was not like that when I first setup ATV. As I was reading these posts, something jarred my memory. I was trying to setup a Plex server to work with ATV (3rd gen) and I changed DNS from automatic to manual and inserted an IP address for the Plex server as the DNS server. ATV was still loading the movies, but taking a long time. Once I changed DNS to automatic, movies loads were back in the 15-30 second range. Make sure DNS is properly set.

If you are using the Movies and Tv Shows icons then that has nothing to do with home sharing as it will be streaming from the cloud.

Have you verified your current connection? Use speedtest.net

Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network)

If you intend to stream content from your local iTunes library via home sharing then ensure you are using the Computers icon.

If you encounter issues here, this will indicate a problem with the local network. If on wifi try ethernet. Make sure router is up to date. Reboot ATV and router. Go to istumbler.net to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise.

I am having the same problem.

I have a massive selection of DVDs which I changed over to APPLE TV mp4 format, put them into my itunes library with all the relevant metadata etc - Album Art etc.

I have no problem seeng everything that is in my library, all correctly filed, movies in movies, TV Shows in TV Shows all broken down.

When I try play them it takes forever - nearly 10 mins to watch anything. As soon as it starts then, it will load the entire 2 gig movie in about 10 seconds direct from my Home Sharing Network.

I have no problme with Music, or Photos, they start straight away.

My movies etc all play perfectly and straight away when using the Home Share on the ipad as well as the iphone - everything show up and works exactly as it should.

The Apple TV 3rd Gen which I got for Christmas is just too slow to load and starting to annoy me.

Please can you help 😟

That's something i have never done - is there a way to bump up the resources for certain programs?

I will see if I can get a program to give a report for the network.

But the fact that the movies etc all play instantly across the ipad and iphone etc doesnt that mean the network is working ok.

I did notice last night watching a movie on the ipad that the movie doesnt load all the way, but loads about 2 mins ahead all the time, yet on the Apple TV it buffers the entire movie within a few seconds - when it eventually starts.

Thanks for your help on this by the way!

Dean
