HI Can i get my old photos onto icloud from an old iphone back up??

The back up is saved on the computer. I have been able to manually save the photo file from its location as a jpeg and add it that way .. however this will take ages to do - there is 4.5 gig! Is there a way to get the back up to be saved onto icloud? thanks all 🙂
