Q: "Codec not Found" in 10.9.2 FCP7 stopping exports?

My movie has been exporting fine in FCP 6.  Upgraded to 10.9.2 finally.  Editing is fine, but now it won't export my movie in HDV that it has been exporting fine for a while.  I keep getting the same alert when it gets about 10% through exporting, "Codec not Found." It suggests hardware card.  I upgraded toFCP 7 to be safe, then I got the System update for 7.0.3 and Apply Software Update but noted it mentioned it covered codecs in HDV for FCP X.  Not 7.  Am I suddenly at the end of the road?  How to export my movie?  Tried zapping preferences, collapsing tracks, etc.  Is there a third party codec for FCP 7 that supports HDV in 10.9.2?

Thanks for any guidance.

I just tried this Pro App link upgrade, I'll see if it works:

FCP 6 and 7 are not officially supported in 10.9.  ZERO consideration was made for FCP 7 and earlier when Apple made OSX 10.9.  FCP 7 was End of Lifed 3 years ago.  Apple now makes FCP-X...and only supports FCP-X.

The HDV codec that is used by FCP is made by Apple. It's so proprietary, that unless you have FCP installed on a Mac computer, it's unviewable.  PC's can't see it at all...period.  So if Apple changed it...it's changed.

Your best bet is to export to another codec, like ProRes. It's more of a standard anyway. But if you must have HDV exports...then it'll be best to backup your computer, wipe the hard drive, and install a supported OS. The lat OS that FCP 7 works with well is 10.8.

Lesson: Never upgrade a working system unless the upgrade gives you something you really need to work. And before you do...clone your working OS to another drive, so in case something like this happens, you can easily go back to it.

Thanks Shane!  I am trying to export in 422 now.  I have been weary of upgrading until finished for all these reasons, but it got so I couldn't play video on the web anymore.  Technology has no patience!  I'll look into Premiere after this, I guess.

Where could I downgrade to 10.8 through?

    cheers

YOu'll need to make or buy one of those standalone flash installers.  Or downgrade to Snow Leopard via disk, and then only upgrade to 10.8.  THis does entail wiping your hard drive and installing from scratch.

Apple has made things really difficult, in their strive for "simplicity."

What I don't understand is that I have been exporting shorts in HDV.  Just when I open this project with lots of media do I have a problem.

The 422HQ did not work, btw.  Thanks, I am trying to figure out what to do here.

OH....I didn't read that right. It worked for a little bit under 10.9...but then stopped.

Did you happen to add any stills to the project?

I did have to reconnect some pictures, actually.... I guess I should bring them in as HDV exports?  Could the picture codec be what is tripping up the export?

YES!  Dammit, I should have caught this sooner. The stills need to be in the RGB color space, not CMYK. Many stills prepped for print are CMYK.

Nice!  I'll have to check now, thanks for your thought and consideration!  Hopefully it continues to export like it always was...I started this project when HDV came out!  Doh!

There was one export of an old news broadcast that was in .dv format.  Never had a problem before, but now it did.  I recompressed it in H264 and thent he whole film exported fine.  Thanks for the trip, took some trial and error to pinpoint!
