Hi Apple Community! I was hoping to go from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks so I can run the latest Google Sketchup 14. But I am afraid my Macbook Pro might be "too old". It was made in April 2007 (happy 7th birthday Mac!) and I know my model needs to be "mid 2007" to work with Mavericks (assuming "mid 2007" is June/July-ish?). Anyways, I went to the App store and it gave me this error:

"We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer."

[IF MY MACBOOK IS TOO OLD - DOES THAT MEAN IT IS TOTALLY DINOSAUR AND CAN PROBABLY NEVER BE UPDATED AGAIN WITH ANYTHING BEYOND LION? Which is a shame because it operates really well as it is & I'd hate to see it go. Based on the stats below it's Recommended OS is: OS X 10.7.4 Lion . Should I just get Lion for the time being until I can buy a newer model or is there something I can do to upgrade this one to work with newer operating systems? Would Mountain Lion work at least? Any advice is welcome - Thanks! ]

As you can see here, a 15" MacBook Pro must be from mid-late 2007 or later to run Mavericks.

Yours is from early 2007.

Yeah I was afraid of that - Thanks for confirming! I guess now I should just update to Lion and be happy with what I have.

1. You said "now". Lion actually was released in 2011. It's too bad you didn't upgrade years ago.

2. You said "update". Actually, you would have to perform an "upgrade" - which is not free - to advance to Lion. Here is where you would purchase Lion (in the U.S.):

Yeah I didn't think about switching to Lion because all my programs were running smoothly. But I totally should have kept on it anyways.

I have to switch to Lion now because the latest version of Sketchup that recently came out requires at least OS 10.7 and currently I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. So guess that's where I am headed, until I can buy a newer mac. This model can't even run Mountain Lion.
