Account Set-Up

Hi,

I am trying to order a book from apple at the moment. I have an apple id (have .mac account and use this for the iTunes store), however it seems I need to set this up again for the book order. I have gone through all the set up screens. When I get to the third one to enter the address to send the book to it defaults to an address I dont want to use. When I try and enter a new address I get the message saying an unexpected error occurred and to try again later. This happened last night and this morning. Anybody else had this issue?

Thanks
Fraser

did you ever use your account as a developer account? Evidently, if you ever use an Apple ID with a developer account, the password hint and answer can never be changed again. iPhoto attempts to update these fields when doing the account setup so any Apple IDs that have been used for the developer side cannot be used. The solution: set up a new Apple ID for use with iPhoto purchases. It *****, I know!

Try setting up a new account and see if you're able to make your purchase with that. Let me know if you're still having trouble.

My account has never been used as a developer account. Would prefer not to have to set up a new Apple ID. If I try and create a new id in iPhoto I would have to sign up for a new email address would I not - if I use my current email addess it comes up with the message saying I am set up to use the service and I should log in with my current email address - which doesn't work!!!!! May have to take this in to the Apple Store and ask one of the Creatives or Geniuses about it.

do you have another email address you could try and use? Does it happen under a new user account?

If you bought your computer within the last 3 months, you have Apple Care support. You might try calling them instead of lugging your computer to the store.

This is probably what they'll have you do:
Try creating a new Apple ID (will deterimine if the problem is linked to your Apple ID)
Create a new user and try it with your Apple ID there & with the new Apple ID (will determine if it's a problem with your user account)

Try these steps and let me know how it goes. You can always set up the Apple ID and not use it again if the tests still fail with it.

Whatever you decide to do, please post back and let us know the resolution.

I, too, had this problem, and was using a .Mac account. I did the same thing (new Apple ID), but really don't want to have 2 accounts.

Does anyone know how to get this fixed? It must be something on Apple's end that's messed up, but who to seek help from? iPhoto online support said it's a tech problem with my machine (even though the problem was happening on 2 machines), so they won't help, and that I should call AppleCare. AppleCare said it's clearly not technical, as I thought, and suggest I try a new account, which worked.

Still, I'd rather see this fixed, than worked around.

Hello, I have the same issue. I have an Apple ID and I buy stuff from iTunes but I can't seem to get a account setup to purchase a book. I get the "unexpected error" message on the 3rd screen where you get to enter your shipping address. There are suggestions to use a different E-mail address or to create a different Apple ID. I think that's asinine. I submitted a feedback to Apple regarding this and it appears that other people are having the same issue. Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks.

After reading other people having the same issue with no solution other than createing a new account, I decided to try www.mypublisher.com. I downloaded the plug-in and uploaded my book. Everything seems to be great, now I'll just wait for 4-5 days for my book.

It's really too bad that this problem exist and Apple is losing business. I would rather do everything in iPhoto but I refuse to create another Id just to work around a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place. Hopefully they'll fix it soon.

Folks:

Comfronted with the same problem, I discovered that I had two accounts in .mac. One that use my user ID and one that use my userID@mac.com.

I use the userID only for most of my purchases in iTunes. But for purchasing the iPhoto book, when I finally typed the whole .mac email address, it work just fine.

I am not sure how I ended up with ..what seems like ...two accounts..but apparently that is what is going on.

Hopefully this will help you folks.

God bless ..Outlaw

I am having the same problem that others have had. Setting up a separate account with a new e-mail resulted in the same error message "Unexpected error occurred. Please try again later."

Thinking that the problem was with the book I am trying to purchase, I have changed fonts, removed page numbers, and exported/imported photos to make sure there are no problems with file names.

What's annoying is that it seems like many problems generate the same error. Could it be that the apple servers are just down? A little more information would go a long way toward problem solving.

I think I've figured this out. I had the same problem everyone here was having. I figured I needed to turn the 1-click on, but the system wouldn't allow me to do it because I would get the dreaded "error" at step 3. After a little searching I went to www.apple.com and then clicked on the store. I "logged in" to the store and made sure all of my information was correct and clicked on "turn on 1-click." After that, I tried logging in to the account again via iPhoto to buy prints and everything worked perfectly. Hope this helps.
