Software Update crashed and now it won't open!

I try to open the software update and I get an error message "Software Update quit unexpectedly". I haven't done any recent updates so I'm not sure what could be causing this. Also, my safari browser also stopped working.

Im running OSX 10.6.8 and this is the error message that I get:

Hello Jimmy1014,

This log indicates an inability to load a particular system resource, as it is missing or damaged. Reinstalling Snow Leopard can replace the affected component.

It is strongly recommended that you verify a current backup is in place, however, this process should not affect your files.
