My sd card slot is not reading my card what should i do? Ive already tried reinserting the cards and restarting the computer

Hi !
I insert the SD card on my computer and I can't see the files on it (photos and videos from my Nikon camera).

I only see these files (attached image).

What can I do to be able to see all the files?

I had a double problem with my SD card reader, and the solution was to have the card pulled out aproximately 5mm and lift up on it with some significant pressure. Thanks to the contributors of this thread as I had to do both actions (pulled out slightly AND lift up on the card) to get the Macbook Pro Late-2011 SD card reader to work. I don't think it's ever worked until just now and it's 5 years old currently. Thanks again for the help and God bless.

Thiis in regards to the Photos App. this answer is from 2017. I only had videos on my SD card. My Sd card would mount to the finder but not auto mount like usual in Photos. My solution was to put the SD card in my camera, take one picture. I inserted my SD card back in my iMac and Photos auto mounted the SD card like usual. Hope this helps!

Hi there, Thanks for your tutorial, but I did as you show in the video but didn't work my iMac is not reading the sd card. When I restart my computer it reads it then it desapears and I got a message saying that the sd car was not ejected properly. Please help!

Starting Image Capture app before inserting the card (as the entire YouTube was created to explain..) does not help in my case. The card doesn't appear in Image Capture.

Try inserting it in, but not fully in. Like maybe leave like close centimeter out. Worked for me. 🙂

I had the same problem. I tried blowing it out but no success. To 'solve it' I had to pull up on the card while it was in the slot. This put more pressure on the contacts inside the reader. If I let go it ejected, so I had to import all the photos off the card whist pulling it up (bending it slightly, though not permanently!). Not an ideal solution but at least I have the contents now.
