Q: I am receiving mail server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding.

How can I resolve this "imap.gmail.com" issue I am experiencing? Will a back up and "hard re-set" fix it?

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.1.1

You can try to reset the phone by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. That does not require a backup as it does not affect data in any way.

If the server is not responding, that error is on the server side. It could be for any number of reasons, but not generally a problem with the phone.

I executed the sleep/wake operation.  However, it did not seem to resolve the situation. I think you are right when you advised "the error is on the server side".

    Thanks so much,

You're welcome. Make contact with Gmail support and see what they have to say. Good luck.
