How does one see the time and date of a clip taken in imoive?
Showing skimmer info just shows something like: MVI_5643.

Select the clip, select "Adjust", select info (i in a white circle) and the name and date appear to the left above the viewer.

I have a problem... A photo clearly taken say at 9pm.... confirmed in iphoto under info states it is taken at 9pm (and I know it was taken at 9pm - time set right on camera).... shows up in imovie event when transfered with wrong time.... the date is right, but th hour is wrong. I think I noticed this since upgrade recently to 10.0.3.
Any ideas?

It seems video shot with same camera is retaining the correct time in imovie events... but the photo meta info is not transfering correctly.

I checked with one of my pictures and the info agrees with the "Date and time of original data generation" entry in the photo's EXIF data (not the creation date of the file).

Thanks G. Imports from iphoto after update to 10.0.3 are not correct.
Try importing a few photos into imovie... USING the iphoto library button (top left) within imovie. i.e. pick some photos and drag to an event.
The info (date/hour) on those photos in the imovie event will be wrong (not match the original correct data in iphoto). (i.e. compare the info of each pic in imovie and iphoto... they will be diffferent - iphoto will be the correct ones).
I tried this on another computer.... exact same thing happening on two different computers.
This is new after 10.0.3 last week.
I can't try this since I don't use iPhoto (I don't even have the app installed). I drag my photo files from my external HD into iMovie. I tried another (since the previous ones may have been imported while iMovie was at version 10.0.2) and the info date and time are again the same as the EXIF data.
Are your dates wrong by an exact number of hours? If so it could be a time zone setting conflict.

A few things...
If I drag and drop into imovie... the times/dates are all correct! It is if I import from iphoto library via imovie they are wrong (and I confirmed this on two computers).
Great question G... I thought the timezone thing was it... since I took some pics/video on east coast (and live in west). But I always make sure I set my camera correctly when traveling.
I also know it is the 10.0.3 update... because I imported some stuff correctly before that last week... and now it isn't working correclty.
In any case.. I did a test series of pics and videos just taken from iphone....
All data (time/hour) is right in iphoto.
Transfering to imovie via iphoto... it is off by several hours (and I can't find a pattern).
Then if I delete it from imovie... and drag and drop it from either a finder window or ironically drag and drop from iphoto it is correct....
Basically the iphoto library button in top left of imovie is broken (in terms of importing correct time/date stamps) and only appears to work correctly.
Avoid it!
Drag and drop instead.
I see you have another post asking if others have this problem. If it turns out that you have indeed found a bug I recommend you report it to Apple (see: http://pondini.org/OSX/BugReport.html for options) since this is a user's forum and there is no guarantee that anyone from Apple will read it.

Hi all. I'm new to MacBook Pro and imovie.
It's been driving me mad trying to get original time and date onto a movie for work, so I spent over an hour on the phone to apple support and all he could say was adjust time and date manually. This is absolutely no good for me as my movies (DVD's) can be subpoenaed to court, so the must be accurate and manual adjustment with editing does not cut it.
I have sent question off via feedback. We shall see what happens.

Are you talking about that after you import your clips to imovie, and after hitting the info button (that GeeD describes), the date/times are off of those clips?
If so, how are you importing them?
Are you sure the date/time are set correctly of your camera?

I'm importing correctly. I just need to have the time and date showing of the time and date the recording was made. Imovie10.0.3 will not all me to do this. I believe it is an upgrade problem.

Set your camera's 'home' timezone to GMT +1 when in DST and GMT when not in DST. Set the time on the camera to whatever your local time is.
iMovie uses GMT in its algorithym to pull the time/date out.
I personally find iMovie 10.x difficult for my uses although it makes great movies, can multi-task in the background and will import more formats/resolutions.
It is tedious for adding time/date to numerous clips as each has to be added seperately (unless I'm missing something) and I can't for the life of me figure out how to make the title fade 0.0 sec

CSIU... say what??? My camera only has one time to be set (does ask me to pick a location i.e. New York, Los angeles, etc... and has an option for DLS on or off).
I understand that there is a time and date that can be adjusted, but it is a absolute pain in the butt when you have numerous video clips that start and finish at different times.
It just does not seem right that you have to go through this manually for all the clips and then editing each clip.
On my old (now defunct windows laptop) I was able to run each video clip through a program called Super DVDate which stamped the exact time and date the video was taken on the video for viewing.
Then I would run the clips through the video editor, edit and produce a DVD. Job done with minimal fuss.
I changed over to a mac as my workmates said it was easy, the time and date on their version of imovie picked up the exact time the video was recoded and put this into the time line.
I have the latest MacBook Pro (only 10 days old) and I find this can no longer be done and it appears to be a mac problem.

In any case... so to make sure I get it... you are importing a clip that was actually taken say 5/5/14 at 1:00pm (your camera's date/time when it was recorded).
When you import it to imovie... it does not show 5/5/14 at 1:00pm. Is this your problem?
It shows a wrong date and time when you click the info button?
If so... again... how are you importing it? Are you importing from iphoto by chance?
Does this happen for both photos and movie clips within imovie events?
