Q: how to fix junk mail in Mail Maverick?

Has anyone figured out how to use mail in Maverick? I continuously have real mail end up in the junk folder and those that are truly junk, I cannot delete from the folder. They are there every time I go back to the junk file. I have tried airmail with mixed results, but I'm really fed up with Mail in Maverick.
