My macbook pro 15-inch, Mid 2010 keeps restarting

It's almost everyday that it restarts now. The problem started recently. I don't think it has anything to do with the applications i run since it restarts at random times. When I restart it here's the 'report' it gives when the error window pops up after startup:

It's likely that you have the problem covered by this : MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video

There's a simple pass/fail test that Apple or an authorised repairer can run. Show them the logs, the linked article, and ask for that.

While the three years from purchase has probably passed, several users here have said that Apple offered free repairs, even quite recently.

Andy and Arfak, thanks. This same error code has been driving me nuts for over a year now. I too have a MacBookPro 15" 2010. The problem was non-existent until 3 years passed. Then I upgraded Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Pretty soon, my attraction to Apple products started to wane. Now it has become a daily battle to use the darned thing. It happens really (and I mean REALLY) often/most with Mail.I used to think it was the mailbox folders causing it. But now it also happens with hovering over links in emails, in the viewing pane. BUT... it also happens now within Safari when Show Bookmarks folders are displayed/hovered over.

So, I got the point where I was in dire straits, and needed to do a factory settings reinstall of EVERYTHING!! I had the belief that it was some rogue software or virus/bug. Along the route to a fresh system install, I used Apple's DVD disk to Hardware-Check, and it came up clean. So, I believed the problem would be resolved. I didn't log into any dodgy sites, nor did I load any free or dubious softwares. But the system was only stable again until the moment I decided to be bold and take it on to OSX Mavericks. Problem is now back again - with a vengeance!

Yes, Arfak, having visited Pakistan (from Karachi to Lahore!) I can sympathise. But don't feel alone... Apple here in London UK say book an appointment. Easier said than done, cos the booking system won't let you book beyond 6 or 7 days from now. And the geniuses who understand the message are thin on the ground. I walked into a store on spec (Kingston) and they simply showed me how to pay for support online - as if I didn't know how to search and use a webpage myself. I'm an IT Specialist, and seemed to know more than the staff there. As this is a "known issue" I'm not sure why I should be doing the running around, paying, discovering the cause, etc, anyway!! I submitted over 200 error messages to Apple in the past year or so, and even typed in my email address, etc, for them to discern root cause, resolution, and respond directly to this affected customer.

If this were a known issue with a car engine dropping out and rendering the product unusable (and dangerous - as with all my lost documents) they would have to recall the product; at least!!!!! Now I am upset that the honeymoon infatuation with Apple gear has ended, and I no longer advise friends/clients to buy Apple. 😟
