Aug 24, 2006 6:10 PM in response to Krientleby tomas472,Any guesses on how many times it will take Apple to
get their batteries right? This will be my second
replacement battery, and while I'm sure they have
plenty of cash off of iPod sales, free batteries
can't be helping their bottom line.
While something like this DOES cost Apple money and reputation, the vast bulk of the expense is covered by Sony, the maker of the defective batteries used in Dell, Apple (and other) laptops.
Right now Sony seems to be covering about $400,000,000 worth of defective batteries... -
Aug 24, 2006 6:15 PM in response to Buzz Beeby Mac Lover,I love Apple because of their support, but this is not cutting it. The first rep I got was very rude and probably tired because of the flood of calls they're getting and, right away, a mention of the battery exchange program he immediately put me in the queue for the Portables line. Got disconnected with a busy signal. Called again, got sent to the Portables, disconnected. I said then I'd try once more and I got connected to a helpful rep who tried to submit it through the website that I was originally submitting it to no avail. She then tried pushing me into the Portables queue again. She was very nice in handling me and she stayed on the line to see if I got into the queue, which I didn't. She explained to call early tomorrow because its usually better then.
So, 45 minutes, wasted tonight. Oh well, I hope I can get this fixed soon. -
Aug 24, 2006 6:17 PM in response to Buzz Beeby Krientle,Indeed I did, and mine does not qualify according to the page as well, though I've read on Digg that Apple's replacement site is screwed up at the moment (also they mentioned technical difficulties when I called Applecare).
Really makes me excited that I spent a grand on a laptop and however much on Applecare, and I've had to replace a keyboard, two batteries, a hard drive, and a power adapter.

Aug 24, 2006 6:18 PM in response to Ben Kreegerby Kurt Triffet,Yes, mine is 6C540 and the form rejects it. Accepts the my iBook serial.
One would figure that if certain serials were exempt, mention would be made, so one can assume that the programmers stumbled on this one.
Phone lines are probably jammed because of the form problem. -
Aug 24, 2006 6:42 PM in response to Krientleby Mike Zaffuto, just checked the battery recall page and mine finally worked, I think apple just fixed the recall page!! -
Aug 24, 2006 6:47 PM in response to tomas472by tomas472,To at least get ONE of the two batteries for my laptop on the list for replacement, I went ahead and submitted the one battery that the page was willing to recognize, in the hope that Apple would eventually fix they page so it would properly validate my other battery.
Now Apple finally has the page fixed so that the other battery is recognized, but the page is refusing to allow replacement for that battery because the iBook's S/N already has one recall battery logged against it.
Sorry, Apple, your battery is bad and subject to recall even if I already got you to agree to replace the other battery. PLEASE get your act together, eh? No excuse for how badly you are running "Day One" of the recall.
(...and of course support has gone home for the night - not that I was ever able to reach them during the day, anyway. sigh )

Aug 24, 2006 7:30 PM in response to LiQuid AcEby Kurt Triffet,It's obvious that the form is screwed up still.
Unless you are a masochist, I wouldn't call Apple for a couple weeks on this one. Phones are jammed.
Would be nice, if when they fixed the form to properly access the bad battery serial database, that they made some mention of it on the form ASAP.
This will help us all, and save them a lot of support calls. -
Aug 24, 2006 7:50 PM in response to Buzz Beeby Rolf202,Hi!
yes, as with Strimkind, I got replacement battery last year, HQ4477, and it is not included on the current recall list --- yet? -
Aug 24, 2006 8:00 PM in response to Strimkindby swirlyblueskies,Thanks for posting this so we know we're not the only ones.
I kept rechecking my numbers on my battery and what I typed, but it kept rejecting my 6C521.. number which was included.
iBook G4 and G4 dual 1 gig Mac OS X (10.4.6) -
Aug 24, 2006 8:49 PM in response to swirlyblueskiesby Bob Worthingham,You have to enter all 12 Characters of the SN not just the 6 characters Apple shows for the range affected.
e.g. 3k56783bt78a instead of 3k5678
Cheers -
Aug 24, 2006 9:02 PM in response to Kim Mcdanielby GOCKOMO,Same problem here. I keep getting the message that both my computer and battery are ineligible. I feel for those call center folks. They're probably curled up in the fetal position by now, having absolutely no control over this situation.
Think I'll sit tight for a few days and see if the web form starts to work. I'm sure they're keeping an eye on the forum. Hopefully, they'll fix whatever's broken in the next few days.
Sit tight all, breathe deeply, and hang in there. We certainly don't appear to be alone in our misery! -
Aug 24, 2006 9:20 PM in response to Kim Mcdanielby bgsimson,Same thing here. I waited for an hour before getting the Apple rep on the phone. He told me that the problem with the serial number would be fixed later today but I just tried at midnight and the problem still exists. The program does still not recognize my battery's serial number. Hope it gets fixed soon. -
Aug 24, 2006 9:35 PM in response to bgsimsonby FelixGarcia,My battery also falls within the range, and it still say invalid. -
Aug 25, 2006 12:25 AM in response to Mike Zaffutoby thehighrise,I've also managed to enter my battery details successfully this morning, so it does appear that Apple have resolved the problem!
