Connection error with Find My Iphone?

I recently lost an iPhone and Ive tried to use the Find My iPhone application but every time I try to sign in I get an error message that says "Connection Error: Find My IPhone could not connect to iCloud, Check your network connection and try again". I don't remember if I have the Find My iPhone activated on the phone I lost, could that be what is wrong or is there any way to fix this error message so that I can track my phone?

This does not work. I have the same problem, my battery is ok, my internet connection is ok, but still my iPhone keeps saying "Find My iPhone could not connect to iCloud". I can connect with iCloud on the iPhone, so there is no problem with the connection between iPhone and iCloud ...

Even when I'm on WiFi and log in in icloud.com it doesn't work. The same problem with my iPad. Problem exists since I upgraded to iOS 7 I think ...

Anyone??

login to icloud.com and track it from there.

Works fine for me many times a week when tracking my kids, so don't make a blanket statement that it does not work when it does.
