Q: iOS 7.1.1 update causing wifi problems

Since I've update my ipad 3 to iOS 7.1.1 my home wifi network keeping dropping out. I've rebooted, and reset network settings, but the issue persists. This only began after the update, so I'm guessing this is an issue with the 7.1.1 update

    My wifi no longer works on iPad3 after the 7.1.1 update.  Was working before update. Ipad 3.

    on my ipad3 wifi is also not joining.on ios 8 our wifi will work?

    i love apple product much but every time the changing of ios softwere is not a good idea

    Just to follow up:

     

    I tried all the steps that Apple suggested:

     

    1) Restore Network Settings

    2) Restore iPhone to factory setting without reloading a back-up

     

    Nothing changed the fact that the wifi connectivity was down to about a tenth of the speed (on average, download speeds down about 1 mbps as opposed to 10+mbps previously)

     

    I finally went to the Apple store, where thanks to my Apple Care plan, Apple swapped my old phone for a new iphone 5. And..surprise, surprise. The new phone work just fine with the most recent iOS and the old backup reloaded straight to the phone. I am now back to enjoying full wifi connectivity with speeds up of 10+mbps). Although the apple customer service was not aware of this particular wifi problem, it appeared as several customers at the store were having issues as a result of the most recent firmware update.

     

    In summary, I continue to like the apple service (which clearly I paid for). However, I also continue to have grimes with the shoddy upgrades and Apple's lack of transparency philosophy.

    Apple has made no comment on this major issue, showing they don't give a **** about the consumer!

    This is clearly a real issue.  I have about 60 iphones at my office and thusfar I've found two that have the wifi grayed out issue.  Both began having the issue after the update to ios 7.x.  In fact, one had the issue, used the heat it up fix to bring it back, then the iOS 7.1 update came out and it disabled his wifi again.  Using the heat up the phone trick fixed it a second time also.  That use went to the Apple store and before he even said anything the "Genius" said "you have the no wifi issue on your 4S, right?" so the folks at the store know the issue very well.  He explained that his phone was broken and he would have to purchase a new iphone and said they had been authorized to upgrade him to a 5c or s for $299.  The clerk knew exactly what the issue was and management already had informed the clerks to offer discounted new phones for a reduced price.

     

    Apple is engaging in a common strategy employed by many tech companies known for extremely poor service (i.e. Dell and Microsoft).  Deny there is any issue until you have a fix.  We've all seen how well that has woeked for Dell and Microsoft.

     

    I'm passing all of this, as well as a video of me using a hair dryer to fix the issue, on to the Investigative team at the number one station in Austin TX.

    There are cleary several issues with the 7.1.1 update that are real. Some of which Apple has admitted:

     

    Although Apple isn’t seeding any new iOS betas to developers, the company is hard at work patching up the latest reported bugs, including two security flaws and one potentially widespread battery drain issue that seems to be affecting even the newest generations of devices.


    The confirmation comes straight from the Mac maker. In responding to queries about the latest discovered security flaws, a company spokesperson said, “[Apple] is aware of the issue and [we] are working on a fix which will be delivered in a futuresoftware update.” (Softpedia, et al.)

    Without a doubt Apple is aware of the problem but as you mentioned they have not provided a solution except for asking the clients to buy a new phone. I can get my wifi working for a few minutes by placing the phone in the freezer for about 10 minutes. I have done it several times and it always gets the wifi connection working although it gets greyed out after I take the phone out of the freezer.  I have spent HOURS reading several forums and I have yet to find EXACTLY what the problem is. Most claim the 7.1.1 update creates a "stress" on the wifi chip damaging it. I am hoping the station in Austin gets some answers or at least a statement from Apple. I also understand there is a class action lawsuit in California but who knows if it will get Apple to solve the problem. This is so frustrating for loyal customers who trust Apple.

    As with Serendipity_at_SoBe above, I have spent HOURS looking for an answer to my iPhone 'rapid battery drain' and 'limited & compromised WiFi connection' since my upgrade to iOS 7.1.1. HOURS & HOURS actually. Tried everything. Issues unresolved. This is an unacceptable additional stress in a busy life. And, today I am traveling long distance 'country New Zealand' and I am concerned my iPhone may fail me when I could need it most. I have no idea if non-USA citizens can join that Californian Class Action Law Suit mentioned above. Good luck with that; hope it can help all of us with these iOS issues. Where there is smoke; there is fire. And there is a lot if smoke. These issues MUST be due to the iOS upgrade and not the result of simple configuration options. Apple... stand up to your responsibilities.

    I also start having slow wifi connection issue as soon as I updated to 7.1.1. I tried many method to solve this here spending 5 hours, but nothig worked so far. Sigh.

    Since updating the operating software on my iPad 2, I have had the w-fi connectivity issue on my home network. My iPhone, iMac and iPad mini have no problems connecting to wi-fi. I brought my device to an Apple store for a genius bar session and was told my issue was a software issue. They offered to sell me a new iPad 2 for $249.00.

    I also have this issue with iPad2.

     

    Good to know, but I don't know why I have to spend $250 for the software issue. It had been working just fine until 7.1.1. it sounds totally unfair to me.

     

    If their only solution is offering a replacement for $250, it is nothing but a time bomb that makes me update iPad by compulsion every few years.

     

    I use Apple products for more than 30 years since Mac IIci, and currently an Apple developper, so I think I know what Im doing. This is the software issue that Apple has to solve asap.

    Same WiFi problems with my iphone5 and Ipad3, since the 7.1.1 update I can not connect. My Windows latptop still works fine on Wifi. Apple come out with a fix? Anyone know how to revert back to an old version?

     

    I know better then to update to soon!

    My Genius Bar advisor would not or could not see a linkage between the software update of the IOS system on the iPad 2 and the "software problem" that was causing my weak signal. My conclusion is that they are instructed to ignore / deny the possibility of a link between an Apple software upgrade and a subsequent iPad operating glitch.

    The wifi performance on my 4s began to degrade with the update to 7.1. It got worse when I installed 7.1.1.

     

    Resetting the iphone from the Setting->General-> Reset menu worked to get wifi back, for a few hours. Doing a clean reinstall of iOS 7.1.1 from iTunes also got the wifi working again for a day. But inevitibly wifi just goes back to not working. "Settings" app seems to hang/ freeze just before disabling wifi.

     

    Since resetting software seems to allow wifi to work again, if only for a little while, that seems like further evidence that this is indeed a software bug
