Annoying text shadows on my desktop

Does anyone know a way to remove the shadow from the text on my desktop? I have Tinker Tool and other utility apps. I thought there was as simple way to do it, but I can't find it.

Thanks.

My understanding is that it was possible to turn off the use of the white outline text / shadow font for items on the "Desktop" via a ".plist" key in earlier versions of "OS X", but apparently that feature is long gone.

It is often pointed out that items that have been given a Finder "label" will have their names in plain black text, improving legibility (eg. try control-clicking an item on the "Desktop" and choose a "Color label"). I think people have been known to set up "folder actions" to automatically add labels to items added to the "Desktop" folder...
