how can I use my HP Scanjet 4890 with OS X 10.9?

I had the sme problem with a Canon scanner. Canon did not have a driver (don't know about now). In desperation, I loaded a driver for 10.7 and it works flawlesly with 10.9.

I downloaded the drivers for both of the devices that used to work (a flatbed scanner and an all-in-one) and that has resulted in neither one of them showing up in Preview or Apple Image.

HP supports up to 10.8, have you tried that?

I checked the SANE project. At this time it is listed as unsupported.
