Pages 08 compat with New Pages??

I just bought a new Ipad Air and was trying to open up the documents to find out that the Pages 08 are not compatible. It's telling me to save in 09. I went and downloaded the new Pages for my macbook pro so I could change them over only to find out that It still wont open them. I was told that Pages 08 could save docs in compatability mode but I'm not seeing that option. If anyone could help, that would be great!
