Lost file on word, is there any way to retrieve it?

Finished writing my term paper, went to open it a few hours later and it was gone. Is there anything to do? I have Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.1, I don't know if it makes a difference.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Did you try using Spotlight ? Mac Basics: Spotlight

Other than a search, can you restore from a backup?

I didn't get the chance to back it up, but I did set autosave one, is there a way to access the autorecovered files folder?
