set up a new email address through icloud, worked for while now I get the message icloud IMAP failed. Verify that the username and password are correct. I know they are so how do I fix this?

If your Mac is signed into your iCloud account, try going to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Mail, restart your Mac, then go back and check Mail again.
