My New macs garage band sounds bad

I bought a new Macbook pro last oct. I migrated all my stuff from my old mac. When I record with my new mac the live recordings sound bad. I mainly use it for vocals and guitar. it sounds like there is a wierd gate or something on the track. It doesnt sound near as good as my old macbook from 2007. I am just using the internal mic. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

Maybe if it sounds like there is a noise gate on, may there is a noise gate on.

Youdon't state which GarageBand version you use. If you are using the new one v10, then check the Samrt Controls Inspector. There is a Noise Gate. Check if is is activated. Although it should be off by default.

Or check in your System Preferences ➤ Sound ➤ Inpput if you have the Ambient Noise Reduction (kind of a Noise Gate) checked. However, this is for the built-in mic and I'm not sure if you use that for your vocal recordings.

Hope that helps
