Sending " BIG " mp3 file over the net HELP!!!!

Hi, really hope someone can advice me.

I run a small music workshop where I show kids how to use Garageband, and have been asked many, many times to send music over the internet. However, the file sizes are often approximately 10MB and above, so bridge the Mac limit. The music is always mixed as an mp3 file but is still far to big.…

So my question is.…

Is there an App or way to compress audio files very small so this can be done, also I would like it to open on both major platform i.e. - Apple/ Windows
Hope someone can help.…

Hello Dave.

However, the file sizes are often approximately 10MB and above,
so bridge the Mac limit.

This is not a Mac limit so are you referring to the message size limit with a .Mac account?

Most if not all email accounts (regardless the provider) have an overall message size limit for incoming and outgoing messages similar to the 10MB message size limit with a .Mac account regardless the platform - Mac or Windows.

If you have a .Mac account, you also have iDisk access and you can access your iDisk from almost anywhere at anytime, and use it to host web sites, store and back up files, or share files with anyone who has an Internet connection.

You can use HomePage to set up a file sharing Web page that lets everyone on the Internet copy items from your Public folder, whether or not they're a .Mac member and regardless of the type of computer they use.

if you wanted to compress mp3s into other formats/smaller bitrates you can use iTunes.

Just go to preferences, advanced, importing. You can then choose your file format, ie. mp3 (if your students are running different systems, ie xp , os x, linux etc. go for this one, plus most cd players can read this format), if they are using macs at home, I would go for apple lossless as it achieves the same quality for a smaller file size.

choose your bitrate (128Khz is good). press ok and then in iTunes import your tracks using the file > import command and then iTunes will import the song and then convert it to your desired format. If it doesn't (you can check using the "get info" command), you can choose advanced and then "convert selection to..."

the file may then be small enough to e-mail/get onto an iDisk.

hope this helps...
