iPod Photo 30GB: Screen flickers white light & No display.

The screen of my sister's ipod keeps on flickering with a plain white light, and there is still no display even though you plug it in an outlet or connect it to a pc.

Could this be a problem regarding the ipod's battery? Or something to do with the ipod's LCD? The ipod has been almost a year old. Hoping to hear from anyone...

First make sure you have the latest ipod updater 06-28-2006. it can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

Now with the ipod disconnected from the PC, put it in "Disk Mode" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 open the ipod updater THEN connect the ipod to the PC and restore it. Restoring will wipe the ipod clean of everything and reinstall the ipods software.

If you have songs on the ipod that are not on the PC, Id suggest copying them to the computer before doing this if you can. If you need help doing that just say so and I or someone can step you thru it

Yes, my sister's ipod has the latest ipod software. The next problem would be, I could not put the ipod into "Disk Mode" due to the dead screen. All I see is a "Flickering white light" and nothing more.

I tried connecting it to an outlet and to a pc, yet the problem isn't solved, still unable to see a normal screen.

I was wondering if the problem occurs at the battery? or the LCD?

So when you reset it, the screen never turns off or goes dark?

Nope it doesn't anymore... all I see is a continuous flickering white light. I don't see the apple logo anymore.

Are you sure the hold switch is off (Showing white) and not on (Showing orange) when you try to reset it?

I would only recommend this as a last resort but I have heard of afew issues where the wire inside becomes loose and people hold there ipod a foot or so above a carpeted floor (Screen facing down) and just drop it to jar the wire back in again.

Is the ipod reconised by your PC or Mac? If you have a PC you can try afew things

It's a windows based ipod, I've tried connecting it into a pc, yet the screen still remains blank, and the ipod is undetected by the pc.

What are the symptoms of a dead battery?

If the battery was dead, the screen wouldn't even light up.

You can TRY to force windows to see the ipod and format it that way then restore it.

I guess the battery is totaly dead now, because it won't even flicker already... as in blank screen... oh well, maybe I'll just bring it to an apple center near by, Thanks alot for your help.

Sorry to hear that, I hope they will repair it for you. If not you can give it to them for a 10% discount on a new ipod, or sell it to ipod part sites for more money which you can use as a "Downpayment" on a new ipod

I aws checking out this Help site and found your email re the White screen problem on your ipod.

I have exactly the same problem on my ipod, it is about 12 mths old.

did you resolve yours or can you advise / help?

They have not resolved there issue yet, I just tried helping them afew min ago.

If you need help with this issue, you need to click the link below and hit "Post New Topic". Type out the issue you are having, what kind of ipod you have (Nano. 5g video ipod, Mini ect ect) and I or someone will help you with the issue.
