My macbook air won't connect to my iphone 4s via bluetooth because it "does not have the necessary services". Am I missing a download on my phone?

Hi folks,

I've been trying to connect my macbook air to my iphone 4s vie bluetooth for quite some time now to send files between the two and I've never been able to do it. When I go to Pair the devices, the code you're supposed to type into the phone appears only for a moment and then disappears and a pop-up will appear on my mac saying "device does not have necessary services". I've tried just about all of the tricks in the book (restarting, unpairing, and don't know what else there is left to do. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1.1
