Q: Trying to bring project from FCE 4.1 to FCP 10.1

I've been working on a 43-minute documentary for a while now. Just upgraded to a new Macbook Pro with the latest version of Final Cut Pro. I edited the rough cut in Final Cut Express 4.1. Is it possible to transfer the work file over? Or do I have to just export the thing at the highest possible quality and then re-cut it on the new version?

If I can't transfer the work file, I'd be very interested to know what everyone's recommendations would be to preserve the quality as best as possible.

Thanks!

There is no direct way to do it.

Export as a QuickTime Movie and use that in FCP X.

Personally I'd import original files into FCP X, cut any lost time and move on.

As a suggestion you could export a small TEST section as above, edit, output to the desired destination to determine if the workflow is a success.

As Al said, there's no direct way, Now this is a long, long way around, but if you have access to FCP, it will open a FCE project. You can then use 7toX to get it into FCP X.

    Not saying it's the greatest…but it's a possibility.
