Verizon tells me that they have no way to unlock my iPhone. I get the complete run-around with them.
Your network provider will be able to unlock your iPhone as long as you have paid at least 6 months of your contract, there is a fee of £20 ($30) with most providers.
If your contract is over and you've finished paying it they will unlock it free of charge.

Verizon will unlock your iPhone 4S for international use if you are a current customer in good standing for at least 60 days. Verizon iPhone 5 phones are completely unlocked (GSM only, of course) from point of sale.
