I have imovie 10 - project runs about 70 min. I had been successful in sharing it to desktop i.e. mp4 - then converting it with program to .mov.

HOWEVER I went back to edit the project down - and now when I share to desktop the quicktime file will not play. Hmmmm? I did add chapter marks in the new version - should that matter? I do not know how to check for errors but don't think there are any as it worked in longer version.

I'm on macbook 10.9.4 - iMovie 10 - and baffled.

I had the same problem. Drove me nuts. Found a guy online who told me the following. AND IT WORKS EVERYTIME.

Sounds a little crazy and not logically what we should normally be able to do - BUT IT WORKS.

1 - ADD MOVIE TO IDVD AS USUAL

2 - WITH IDVD AND PROJECT OPEN….

SAVE AS DISK IMAGE TO DESKTOP

3 - QUIT IDVD

4 - LAUNCH DISK UTILITY (IN FINDER )

5 - CHOOSE FILE > OPEN DISK IMAGE > AND SELECT .img FILE CREATED IN STEP 2

6 - CLICK THE BURN ICON

7 - INSERT BLANK DVD

8 - IT WORKS
