How do I get a pass code reminder

Just got a note on my iPad re an update to 7.1.1. and it asks for my passcode before I can download and install the update. This passcode request is new to me, help required, have I missed something?

iPad, iOS 7.1.1

The passcode should be the unlock code you set for the iPad........ If you did not set one, it would be strange to see such a message.

I "think" you will need to restore the device. That is explained elsewhere in Apple knowledge base articles. Be SURE to back it up before you do anything.
