I have A samsung SCX 4200 printer/scanner, can't get scanner to work

I have a SCX 4200 printer/Scanner made by samsung and I cannot get the scanner portion to work, I have tried downloading the drivers and everything looks good, it asks me to restart but once it restarts nothing is there and the scanner doesnot work. The printer portion works fine but why can't I get the Scanner to work. You would think it would be in apples best interest to allow this scanner to work with my desktop. However, I am confident that one of my knowledgeable peers will be able to provide me with step by step instructions on how to get my scanner up and running.

What version of OS X is installed on the computer and have you tried Image Capture? This is the scanning app already pre-installed on your computer.

checked it and there are no devices connected to it. It's a brand new Imac so it has the most recent OS X. used to be a pc person so I dont even know how to look up what os x I have

have you heard of "vuescan scanner software for windows, mack os x and linux" perhaps this might work

any thoughts from the community?

To learn what computer and version of OS X is installed, click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and then click About This Mac. To find ANY app or file open Spotlight, that is the magnifying glass in the upper right of the display and type in the App name (such as Image Capture) and once found hit enter.

BTW how is the device supposed to be connected (Wi-Fi, USB, Etc...?)

Finally, if the iMac is new you have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support, I would recommend using that. You also may want to consider buying AppleCare as it extends the warranty to 3 years and includes 3 years of telephone support.
