How can I retrieve Numbers files that have disappeared from iCloud nd my devices

I upgraded to the latest iOS and Numbers versions, now my files are not available anywhere. Apple what are you doing? Don't you test software before releasing? This is something I might expec from Microsoft, but not Apple. I accept paying a premium for Apple, but not if I am going to lose my work when updates come along.
