Q: com.apple.internetaccounts.xpc dialog can't enter password

When I start Mail or have it open I get this dialog repeatedely:

com.apple.internetaccounts.xpc dialog.png

Normally in this type of dialog I just enter the password and be done with it. It's just that the dialog won't take a password. No matter if I wait, or deselect the dialog and select it again, there's just an error sound for every key entered and the click on the OK button. Something similar may have happened on occasion in the past in other dialogs, but then all I had to do was to click the desktop and then the dialog again. Then I could write.

What I write with this dialog selected will now be written to the frontmost app (or the active app) behind the dialog, so this have something to do with the frontmost app interacting with this system (supposedly) dialog window.

If I click cancel the dialog just pops up again indefinitely until I leave Mail. There's no indication of any of my accounts in Mail not connecting, so I'm not sure what exact  process behind xpc that does need the password. Mail are already using these accounts.

My Keychain is opened when this happen. Other similar dialogs for Calendar and what not does take the password as I can write to them. The same thing will happen if I click internet accounts in System Prefs, except the dialog will only pop up a few times. I have nothing related to Mail or the Keychain on iCloud.

Ideas? Anyone else have seen this issue?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), 2.2ghz 6gb/1tb

It now seems the these accounts doesn't fetch new mail after all as I have newer mail in my phone. There's no visual indication of this as there usually is when there's a connection problem.

I have deducted that the dialog originates with xpcd or securityd, but I'm not sure where the root cause is. However this is in the logs:

"2014-04-30 14:07:38,114 secd[189]:  securityd_xpc_dictionary_handler Keychain Access[55214] DeviceInCircle The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.security.sos.error error 2 - Public Key not available - failed to register before call)"

I've repaired permissions too, but I seem to have 800 files in my user folder with erroneous permissions so I'm starting there.

Try running Keychain First Aid and resetting the original keychain.

Thank you for the suggestions, that while useful I'm sure does seem to be a bit overkill for this issue. Actually there does not seem to be any problem using the Login and Local Object keychains and I can fetch and send mail any wihout problems beside this problematic dialog. I did a small repair of the Keychain of 6 objects, so this might have improved the situation.

I still will try the suggestions by Davis as I've already had decided that, but I must install a recovery partition, so it's quite an undertaking as I need to backup important stuff beforehand.

An interesting bit of detail is that if I open the "accounts" in Mail preferences and select a field, then keep choosing "cancel" in teh dialog 10 times or soit doesn't come up any more until I work for a while with messages.

OK, so I used "Recovery Partition Creator 3.7" to make a recovery partition as I didn't have one. I backed up all important data beforehand.

Then I took the advice from Linc Davis, as suggested from Eric Root, to "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs" and Bob's your uncle!. No more dialogs.

    Interestingly the command

    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l

that before the reset indicated about 830 files with erroneous permissions in my user folder, did after the reset indicate about 1096 erroneous files, that is more files. I'm not sure what toi make of that but the issue went away so I'm grateful to bo Eric and Linc. Thank you!
