Open excel attachment from gmail in numbers

I want to open (in numbers) which I have installed on my iPad Air which has been sent to me in an email

I view with gmail mobile app or desktop on the ipad, but the open to open in numbers is not shown, and if I tap RHS of the icon with folded corner I get options to download or save to google driver.

None of these appears to work, only to open in the browser., which I do not want to do.

Using chrome, but same is true of safari, no other options appear in Safari

Am I missing something? Other post (for iPhone) say tap download more of the message, but I don't have this.

This is so frustrating

Apple is missing the point! What we need is a way to open the attachment in numbers or even Microsoft Excel without having to leave the app and open another app. Apple can fix this by adding those options to alllll the others that pop up as options when pressing on the home base icon at top right.

ok thanks, I posted there but no response as yet.

Really annoying - i thought Apple had all this sort of primary functionality sorted, it was the reason why I shifted from PC after 40 years.

You may wish to try these work-arounds.

-- create someother email account. Use the mail app not the gmail app. You could use another gmail account. Once you get the new email address to work, you could try the same one but use the mail app.

< my first suspect would be the gmail app. Perhaps google wants you to use only google stuff. >

-- visit apple store.

-- try a different spreadsheet app
