Calendar - How do I set Colour categories for specific event types?

How can I set colour categories for specific event types in my macbook pro calendar. I can do this with Outlook but can't figure out how to do this in Calendar 10.9.2?

i.e. Fitness Blue; Toastmasters Meetings Red, etc. that I can tailor?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Hello there, MGT2013.

The following Mac Basics Knowledge Base article on Calendar and it's features:

In particular to your question this section is useful:

Create new calendars

By default, OS X includes two calendars in the Calendar app – Work and Home. If you want to create a new calendar, choose New Calendar from the File menu. Type a name for your calendar in the text field. For example, if you have kids, you might want to create a separate calendar for each one to track their schedules. You can see and control how your calendars appear by clicking the Calendars button.

To change the color or name of a calendar, select it from the calendars list, then choose Edit > Get Info. To remove a calendar and all of its events, right-click or Control-click the calendar's name, then select Delete from the shortcut menu that appears.

I have the same issue. After 4+ years of being a mac owner I have come to detest how often they require the most round-about ways for doing the most basic things. Something that should only require a single one step action to complete, or a "drag-and-drop" now requires some researched, roundabout way to complete. This seems like the norm for Apple. Maybe it is because of their multi platform integration with cloud etc, I don't know. I don't get it either. They set out to make a platform that was intuitive and friendly to the technology layman but it has morphed into processes that rarely make any logical sense.
