If you can scan then your scans are being saved however I suspect we are missing some information. First what scanning application are you using to Scan? If you use and HP app I would stop and begin using Image Capture which is pre-loaded on your computer. If you are not familiar with IC then you can find it by using Spotlight. Below is a link on Image Capture that should help you:
Thanks, I can scan and save from Image Capture, but the color is terrible. The colors that I get in the scan or nowhere near what I scanned from the origin image.
Printer software can become corrupted over time.
Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
Click - to delete the printer.
Then download and install a new driver for v10.9 > Software & driver downloads HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One Printer | HP® Support
Then re add the printer using System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print. Click +

Hi,
First when replying to a message on these forums, please click "Reply" in the body of the message you are replying to, otherwise we cannot tell who you are replying to.
Image Capture will not distort the color in any way, however remember whenever you scan you have to experiment to get the settings you prefer and the file type you need. There is no optimum, if you are scanning photos for example and want to get the best quality possible that will require a higher DPI setting, the trade off being the higher the setting the larger the file. This is why you need to experiment to find what it optimal for your needs. There is no "best" it's strictly up to you.
