Q: It says that a password will be required before turning off my iPhone in case it gets stolen, but I was just able to hold the app icon down for a few seconds and delete the app entirely. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? Am I missing something?

once you turn that feature on - if your phone is stolen, nobody can wipe it and reuse it without your password.  That makes it useless for resale by the thief.

If you mean the Find My iPhone app, that has nothing to do with your iPhone being locked or trackable. The app is so you can track another iOS device, so the app is easily removable. Find My iPhone and Activation Lock are in the iCloud settings and cannot be turned off without your Apple ID and password.

    Regards.

The find my iPhone app you deleted was so you could find someone elses phone for them.  Or a family members.  Find my iPhone that protects your device is accessed thru settings, icloud, Find my iPhone.  If you turn it on, it requires your password to turn it off.

You would use the Find my iPhone app on another iOS device, or at www.icloud.com to locate YOUR phone.

Thanks, all! I understand now and found the iCloud activation lock in settings, as well. Makes much more sense now. Thanks! :)
