I recently purchased an extended keyboard for my IMac because i do a lot of work with music and I can't figure out how to make the delete key ( on the extended part of the keyboard) delete - do I have to use two buttons? ... or do I need to set up the keyboard functions in the actual software - in this case Cubase - thanks in advance for your help!
That's a forward delete. IOW, you have to be to the left of what you want deleted for it to work. Opposite the action of the normal delete key.
What I am deleting are audio files on a timeline, so you're saying I have to place the cursor on the section in front of the one I want to delete? That is not my usual workflow that's for sure - the normal delete key doesn't work the way I'm used to either. I want to select a file and delete it - thats all - preferably with one key so I can keep one hand on the mouse. I do this same kind of editing with video as well.
Ah! The proverbial missing information. To delete files/folders (i.e., move them to the trash), you select the file or folder and use the normal delete key while holding down the COMMAND (⌘) key. To empty the trash, you use ⌘+SHIFT+delete key.
