mac Pro display contrast too high

I recently moved to a 2.66 ghz Mac Pro from a G5 and am finding that when I use the Display Pref's calibration settings my La Cie photon20vision display is way too contrasty. On my G5 it worked fine and the contrast was fine. I started as the Disply Pref's instruct by setting the contrast to 100% and continuing as I have numerous times before. For some reason the calibration seems skewed to be way too contrasty. I sent a photo done on my monitor and sent it to someone and they asked what was wrong as everything was so washed out and flat on their monitor.... on mine it looked fine
