iPhone 5 screen fading to purple?

Hi, At the start of today I updated my phone. Then afterwards throughout the day the touchscreen began to become less responsive. After putting in my passcode the phone seems fine, however now after about 5 seconds the screen begins to slowly fade to purple? and the touchscreen just stops working. I have tried to reset the phone and restore it but that has not helped. I have also been on a chat online through the apple support pages to an apple employee to try fix it and he quoted me upto £216 to fix. My warrenty has ran out, however there must be a cheaper way to fix this? As this fault was not brought on by me and seems to just be a problem with the phone, it hasnt been dropped or anywhere near water? Just wondering if anyones had a similar problem or have any solutions? Thanks.

I don't know what to do! can someone help me? it would be very helpful if a APPLE EMPLOYEE WOULD ANSWER MY QUESTION!!! i don't want a samsung! my mom said that if i can't get my phone to work I'm gonna get a samsung no offense but i don't like samsungs so please someone help me!!!! My screen used to fade to purple and then i sometime turned my phone back on and it would be responsive. one night it faded purple after i downloaded an app. (it was 'epic!' the app) maybe the app i downloaded was corrupted? i don't know anyways i turned my phone off and then on but it just kept fading black/purple. that was the last time i ever used my phone i am now phoneless!!!!!! i tried charging it, it won't work. i tried turning it on and off does not work. i tried plugging it into my computer did not work. i used to hit my phone and i think thats partially why. honestly i just want it to work again. reasons why:::::::::::

A.) I don't want to waste my parents money$$$$$$$$$$

B.) iPhones cost a lot

C.) I dislike samsungs

D.) Its not my fault my phone got broken

I have the same problem too.

I had my iPhone for about half a year now, and it doesn't have any water damage. It did fall onto a hardwood floor one time, but it didn't fade purple then. That was about two days ago. Now whenever I turn it on, within 4 seconds the screen fades purple with lines going vertically and horizontally in all colors. Then it randomly opens an app, and is very unresponsive.

I have read some others' posts and saw that if you turned your brightness down to about 10% or 15%, the purple won't fade onto your screen. When the screen is dimmed, it is also more responsive like normal.

I hope that this helped out a bit, just to get your phone back to normal until you get it fixed/upgraded. I hear a lot of people had this problem as well...

I have the same problem, screen fading into green, red or purple and then the reboot loop starts. I've tried restoring and after the occasional reboots or it shutting down on me half way through a call, my iPhone 5 touchscreen has become unresponsive. I am also unable to back up as i have to enter my 4 digit pin code and am unable to as the touchscreen is frozen. I attempted to restore it but can not complete the set- up as you need to swipe to complete process. Taking it to the Apple store Thursday..very disappointed, have had to buy a new cheap Android but have no access to my 'Contacts' so currently have no numbers of friends stored- frustrating.

I've recently been having this problem too. I haven't found a solution but have discovered that if I turn my screen brightness down to the very minimum the fading stops (or slows to the point of being undetectable).

I've searched on a few other forums and have come across suggestions that this could be some sort of loose connection within the device or possibly moisture damage (from water or sweat for those that use their phone frequently whilst exercising). I have no idea how valid or authoritative these suggestions are. I do use my phone whilst exercising and it has got rained on a couple of times so I suppose moisture damage is a possibility.

I've backed up my phone and I'm considering attempting a wipe and restore but others seem to have had mixed results after doing this. Another suggestion I've seen is that it could be some sort of processor/memory/overheating issue. I've freed up space on my device to reduce strain (over 1GB of free memory now) though that hasn't really had any effect.

I realise none of these are solutions but hopefully sharing some of the things I've tried here will reduce some of the leg work/searching around on forums for anybody else who is having the same problem! My device is nearly three years old so I'm considering the possibility it may just be time for an upgrade, rather than a repair...

I got a friends sister's phone she ditched because it would slowly fade and purple lines would show up. After a bit of time the phone would not respond to any input or swipes.

I found that by turning the brightness down to about 15% the phone continues to work.

It is really annoying and I can see why she got rid of it.

I have done several factory resets and a reset from within Settings-->General-->reset and I reset everything... essentially re-wiped the phone.

Nothing works.

I have heard that some people are able to fix it with a screen replace, but I have also read accounts of people repeatedly replacing their screens. Not sure what to do exactly, but I will likely buy a replacement for cheap and see if that fix works.

I read a couple of accounts of people opening the SIM Card door, removing the SIM Card and blowing forcefully. Perhaps there was some sort of gunk short circuiting something.

Anyhow. This is a difficult issue.

Update:

I took the phone in and had the screen replaced.

$105 @ Bulbs and Batteries store.

I guess they have 10% off if you schedule the repair online which I didn't do.

The tech there was very good at analyzing what the potential problems could be.

He seemed to say that likely power was not getting to the screen in sufficient quantity to keep the screen fully powered.

It could be as simple as a loose cable if the phone was dropped, some water damage even though I detected none when I looked at the water damage dot in the SIM card slot., it could be that the screen was going bad and not getting enough power, or that somehow the mainboard was damaged.

He thought it most likely to be from some sort of water damage or damage to a cable connecting the screen. Possibly a drop or even some moisture had gotten into the phone from something.

He said that probably what was happening was when the phone was initially turned on it was fully functioning as it should but due to loss of power or decreased power to the screen.... the screen would dim and when the power was not sufficient, the screen froze with just the last input image which is why it couldn't receive any finger input. Essentially what was left on the screen was an image of the last thing which was happening. Enough power to see that, but not enough for and input.

The screen replacement took only an hour after I dropped it off. They said there was water damage, but only to one of the components being replaced during the screen replacement.

The phone so far is fine.

Good things about taking it to the shop.

1. tech experience in analyzing the causes of iPhone malfunctions

2. fairly inexpensive screen replacement. Screen ~$60 bucks. 45 for service which is reasonable given the time and analysis.

3. I couldn't inadvertently damage the phone. I have fixed several iPhones before, but at some point I could brick one.

4. I have a 6 month warranty on the phone screen. If anything should go wrong with it I can bring it in for another replacement.
