    Melophage,

I was able to ge rid of the two kext by moving them into the trash and emptying it.

    Last EtreCheck is:

    Kernel Extensions:

              321 MB          Page-ins

              3 MB          Page-outs

I ran EtreCheck about 3 times before this one and got higher Page-outs (69 MB, 149 MB and 158 MB), but it seems to be stabilized now around the figure you see now (max 31 MB). Sometimes I open too many apps at the same time, so maybe I have to increase my RAM to 8 GB.

Thanks a lot for all your assistance.

    Frankcast48,

did you try running the Cisco uninstaller to get rid of its IPSec kernel extension?

I don’t know what AnchorFree or the SpeedUpMacLauncher is, so I don’t know if you need them or not — one of them could be responsible for the remaining page-outs.

It looks like you still need to take care of the EPSON Low Ink Reminder software.

    Melophage,

I am finding out if there is an uninstaller for the CiscoVPN.

With respect to the AnchorFree it is related to Hotspotshield which I installed sometime ago but are not using anymore. I unstalled it, but it semms the kext and LaunchDaemon are still there. I'll try to remove them.

and the SpeedUpMacLauncher, I have no idea of what it is. I do not recall ever downloading the app. But I was able to remove the Launch Agent.

The Epson Low Ink Reminder Software I deleted some time ago, but don't know how to get rid of the launch agent.

How about the com.Affinegy.InstaLANa.plist launch agent which is always running? Is that something I have to have?

    Thanks again

    Frankcast48,

I have no idea what the Affinegy software is. The “InstaLANa” name implies that it has something to do with a local area network of some sort.

    Melophage,

Thanks for the translation. Let's leave it alone then.

I removed all other kext, LaunchDaemon and Launch Agents.

The application Hotspotshield after uninstalled using their own sfotware appeared again after restarting, but removed again and has not appeared for the moment. Let's cross our fingers. Congratulation, this is the latest EtreCheck full report:

it looks much better — even your EPSON software is loading successfully now! Congratulations on a hard slog successfully navigated.

You should still update your Silverlight plug-in from the link which was in an earlier reply.

I'm not sure what these are left over from, some security or anti-virus, perhaps ?.

    User Launch Agents:

       com.UninstallerTool.plist

      com.VolumeWatcherTool.plist

but it's worth looking at the files to find out.

    Hi Melophage,

    Re:

    User Launch Agents:

       com.UninstallerTool.plist

      com.VolumeWatcherTool.plist

I have not been able to remove them, because don't seem to find them anywhere in the Libraries. I have even tried to stop and remove them in Terminal (even sudo) and up to now what I got is the following:

    Fs-MacBook-Pro:~ c$ sudo launchctl

    Password:

    launchd% stop com.VolumeWatcherTool.plist

launchctl stop error: No such process

    launchd% remove com.VolumeWatcherTool.plist

launchctl remove error: No such process

    launchd% quit

Loooking for these files I found another app I had loaded long ago and that I never use: CCleaner. It is absolutely incompatible with Mavericks and cannot even run it and cannot find the uninstaller. I wonder if these Launch Agents may have something to do with it.

    Re:

com.Affinegy.InstaLANa.plist I found that it has to do with a Belkin Router. I once had one, but no anymore. I use my Mac in some LANs that have Belkin Routers. Would it be safe to uninstall this Affinegy?

    Thanks in advance

    Frankcast48,

I understand that Netflix on Macs depends upon Silverlight, so if you’ve used Netflix, that’s probably why you have Silverlight installed.

Property list files (.plist files) can be found in more places than kernel extension files (.kext files). They’re not executed files like .kext files are — they’re essentially data files — so launchctl will have no effect on them. It’s likeliest that those .plist files will be found somewhere under your user’s Library folder rather than under the system’s Library folder. If you still have the UninstallerTool and the VolumeWatcherTool installed, then you should uninstall them to see if they will clean up their respective .plist files also. If they don’t, then you could try moving their .plist files to your desktop, and restarting your MacBook Pro to see if they cause any negative effect after being moved. If no negative effect occurs, delete them from your desktop.

Perhaps you can use a Web search to find where you’d originally downloaded CCleaner from, and see if they have an uninstaller (or at least uninstallation instructions) on their site.

If you make use of networks with Belkin routers, then you should probably keep the InstaLANa software installed, since I don’t know what effect removing it would have on your access to such networks.

    Melophage,

    Well, I'm almost there.

I uninstalled CiscoVPN following their instructions on the webpage and everything went well.

Unistalled the Belkin Router Monitor, and I am working at a LAN witha Belkin router with no problems.

I moved com.UninstallerTool.plist and com.VolumeWatcherTool.plist to the Desktop and everything seems to be working fine.

Re: Epson Low Ink Reminder; I'll probably reinstall the app and test it. If there is no problem then I leave it or else I'll use their uninstaller.

    Frankcast48,

it’s looking good. I hope that the next time that you restart your MacBook Pro,  its Page-outs will stay at zero. Perhaps a restart will also find the EPSON Low Ink Reminder working again, if one of the other uninstalled packages had been interfering with its operation?

    Melophage,

Epson Low Ink Reminder is solved upon reinstallation.

Page-outs still not in zero. What does that mean?

    Frankcast48,

page-outs represent the need for some portion of your currently running apps to be temporarily saved onto your hard disk. Page-outs are bad because writing to and reading from hard disk is much slower than writing to and reading from RAM; having zero page-outs would mean that you have enough RAM to not need to use your hard disk as temporary storage for your running apps. At this point, your page-outs might be a sign that you would benefit from upgrading your MacBook Pro’s RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB. When your usual simultaneous set of apps is running, also run Activity Monitor, and select its Memory tab: what information is shown on both sides of the Memory Pressure graph? Those numbers will be more useful to determine whether a RAM upgrade would be of benefit to you.
