Can you delete all your iPhoto pictures after merging iPhoto with Aperture?

I was last using iPhoto and decided to move to Aperture. After downloading Aperture, I found a copy of all my iPhoto pictures in my images folder on my mac. I have decided to use Aperture but I do not want a copy of all my photos twice on my computer (one for Aperture and one for iPhoto). If I delete my iPhoto, will it affect my Aperture in any way?

Aperture 3, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Are yiu asking about deleting the iPhoto application or the library? Don't delete the iPhoto application, you may need it, even, if you now have Aperture, see: Keep iPhoto - It May Come in Handy!

Deleting your iPhoto library will depend, on how you migrated from iPhoto to Aperture. Are you using your iPhoto library as Aperture library? Then do not delete your iPhoto library. If you imported your iPhoto library into your Aperture library, and all photos are managed and stored inside the Aperture library, you can delete the iPhoto library as redundant. But before you do any massive delete, make sure your backup of the iPhoto library is working and current.
