This happens for several reasons.. The two main ones are...

1) Your WiFi is in fact, a little flaky... It may seem strong to you but there could be minor brief interuptions or glitches that normally you don't notice. For some unknown reason Apple's server are particularly sensitive to such interuptions..(Its recommended to use a direct Ethernet connection whenever possible to download such large files... )

2) Your Mac is going to sleep..... In which case go to Energy Settings and set both Power and Screen to Never whilst you are downloading the additional content. Also uncheck the "Put Hard drives to sleep" option there... Finally, turn off any screen savers that may be active. Note: Don't forget to put these settings back to normal after you have completed the downloads...

Additional: On a laptop make sure it is connected to a power source and is not running on batteries during the download.....

I just spoke with Apple tech support about this - it's a known issue, but there is a fix. This is a problem with something getting stuck in a cache.

The fix is to boot into safe mode.

1. Restart your computer, and hold down the SHIFT key to boot up. You'll know you're booting into safe mode once you see a progress bar while booting.

1a. Once you're booted into safe mode, there will be no clear indication that you've booted into anything other than a normal user mode. This is OK.

2. Reboot normally.

3. Download all the additional content you'd like.
