Some songs don't appear under artist

I have only a couple of songs in my iPod that don't appear under the artist but everywhere else incluiding Playlist and the actual list of songs the do appear in. Can anyone help me? I read through repeated post of this same subject but I can't seem to find the answer to my question. I read in a post that the song has to have an album name to appear under the artist but I have some songs that don't have an album name and they do appear under the artist. I also checked the info of the particular song that doesn't appear under the artist and everything looks correct.

This is a small "Bug" in the ipods software. The reason you have some songs appear under "Artist" even tho they have no album name is because another song by the same artist has an album name.

The songs that are not appearing under "Artist" either

A) Have no other songs with a album name by the same artist

B) You have 2 artist names that are somewhat the same, one has songs with an album name, another doesn't

What I mean in section B is for example you may have an artsist like.....Elvis. Lets say you have 3-4 songs by him. 1 song has an album name, the other 2-3 don't. Now the song with album name, and another without may have his name spelled like this

Elvis

THe other 2 may have it spelled like this

elvis

2 have a capital E the other 2 don't, this would creat two
names in the "Artist" section on ipod one "Elvis" one "elvis". Since only one song with a Capital has an album name, it will be listed. The other 2 without an album name will cause lower case "elvis" not to even appear and they won't apper under the capital one becuse there tags have lower not upper case.

This can happen in other ways too that are not that noticable like "Elvis" and "Elvis." Theres a dot at the end of the second one, or the even harder one to see on iTunes, the famous space before the artist "Elvis" and " Elvis"

In short what one song has "Artist" in its tag all other songs will have to have the EXACT same thing

hi.

i have the same problem, but i renamed my artists and they still don't appear together.

for example, i have about 10 backstreet boys songs (i know, i know...get over it), but only one appears under music>artists>backstreet boys on my ipod. the rest are on the ipod, but not under the arstist name. i made sure that the artist name is the same for every song, and it still doesn't work. now, one of the songs has an album name, and the others don't. i would change this so that they all don't have an album name, but i have the same problem for other artists, and i really don't want to go through them all.

please please PLEASE. somebody help me. i really really need help, as this is driving me nuts. thanks!

From what I gathered, there are there possible issues why all the songs are not listed under your artist menu:

A. The artist names are spelled differently in iTunes. (Check to make sure you don't have "Rolling Stones" and "Rolling Stomes"

B. The Compliation setting is "OFF" on the Settings menu on your iPod. Just turn it "ON". (This is the easiest fix and will give you the "ALL" option when you click on the artist)

C. The Album is blank on iTunes. Just fill in the album name and they will all show up. You could even put "UNKNOWN" and that would work.

Hope this helps!

Another bug in the iPod. If an artist only has one album in the library, any other songs without an album assigned to them will not show up under that artist. As soon as a second album is created for that artist, then ALL the song for that artist will show up, even the ones with out an album name.
So either add another album or pick one of the "album-less" tunes and assign is an album name to force all tunes to show up.
