    If you have an IMAP style account, deleting them off of your mail server should remove them from your phone.

     

    If you have POP mail, then when you did your update the phone downloaded ALL of your mail from the server.   You would have to delete it again, AND remove on the server so it doens't happen again.

    I have POP server.  Deleted all but 50 messages from the server and set up my account anew.  Thank you
