Outgoing mail problem: error 5.1.2

My outgoing mail no longer works. I get a message "Error 5.1.2 Address is missing a domain name."

I just bought a Mac Pro and "migrated" my old computer onto the new one.

This problem only occurs on the new computer. All the other computers on my network continue to work normally and their Mail applications are set up the same way as the Mail application on the Mac Pro.

My ISP is the same. I use a POP3 account from my server, the same one I've been using for years. I tried deleting the old outgoing server settings in the Mail prefs panel and resetting it, I tried changing the server port in the server settings to 587, I tried resetting my whole network and modem system. No luck.

Any advice?

Georgen,

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information, please delete the Email Address entry, and re-enter. This entry may be corrupt or incorrect, but since Mail accesses the Incoming Mail Server, using only the Username, the error does not show up until you send.

If this does not correct the situation, please provide more info, including whether you are using the SMTP provided by your ISP, or another.

Well, I tried deleting the address and reforming it. No help.
Actually I have Mail set up to check several email boxes and I reset them all to no avail.
I haver one address from my ISP, which is Comcast, and a couple from a web hosting service that I use. They both provide POP3 accounts for mail using "pop.mysite.com" and "pop.comcast.net" for the outgoing server addreses.
I've totally erasded everytrhing and renetered all the incoming and outgoing information.
I can get email fine, can't send at all, and the outgoing works fine with the same set-up on my other three computers on this network.

George,

Check the discussion in the Topic at the link below -- however, the Comcast support page link I provided in that topic, seems to have been altered by Comcast, perhaps as a result of the assimilation of Adelphia:

You must properly match the Port and method of Authentication -- the Port determines the type of authentication (if any) needed. Carefully check the combinations entered on this one computer.

However, the message seems to focus more on the form of the address, and thus the reference to domain.
