Failing ATV Remote?

OK. So, I'm pretty sure I know what I need to do but I want to confirm it before I have to spend the money. Apple TV 3rd Generation is not responding to the remote control at all. I replaced the battery in the remote and still I get no response. There are no apparent issues with the ATV, works fine. I'm pretty sure it's just the remote needing a replacement. Am I correct?
